GAM Original Settlements

The Original Settlements of La GAM (Gustavo A. Madero) are in the very north of Mexico City. They're here, principally associated with towns surrounding the old city of Guadalupe, renamed Guadalupe de Hidalgo early in the Independence period. Today, it's the Basilica de Guadalupe.

The names increasingly reflect their long histories prior to the Spanish invasion. The layers of urban life continue to be laid down, but these communities bear at least a memory of a pre-urban past.

The Villa de Guadalupe, a colonial era city, replaced Tepeyac. But three of the neighborhoods of the ancient town can still be visited. Here's a quick guide to the other original settlements of Gustavo A. Madero and how to find them.
