Alameda Oriente

alameda oriente

The Alameda Oriente is an ecological park with nine separate areas for activities and recreation. At 82.9 hectares, the environment is surrounded by trees and hedges and contains a nursery and an artificial lake. The park is very close to the very eastern edge of the Benito Juárez International Airport.

An eastern lawn had been part of the Xochiaca Lagoon and was used for many years to receive airport runoff. This was restored as part of the Xochiaca Project and came to be called the “Alameda Oriente.” In August of 1987, the Bordo Xochiaca site was officially closed as a landfill. And today, in something of a successful tribute to ecological efforts overall, the park is home to:

  • Acacia
  • Eucalyptus
  • Casuarina
  • Palm tree
  • Poplar
  • Ash
  • Italian cypress
  • Cedar Limn
  • Pine tree
  • Jacaranda
  • Tamarix
  • Calistemo
  • Colorn
  • Elm

Hedge species include:

  • Myrtle
  • Clavo
  • Cedar
  • Eucalyptus
  • Juniper
  • Piracanto

The Alameda Oriente is not likely to be visited by many international visitors, but it is an important part of the eastern edge the City.
