The Campo Marte Loyalty Monument is officially the Monumento Magno Conmemorativo del Centenario del Ejército Mexicano. That’s “The Grand Monument of the Mexican Army Centennial.” It stands out when you’re passing on Paseo de la Reforma, and bears some explanation.

The Campo Marte is the equestrian grounds of the Mexican Army. The army uses the area for a number of exercises, events, and for field trainings.

The monument was dedicated in 2015. The President commemorated the Centennial of the Armed Forces on what actually the Army’s 102nd anniversary.

  • Agustín Hernández Navarro (1924-) is an architect and sculptor. He’s likely best known for having designed the Heroico Colegio Militar. He did so in collaboration with architect Manuel González Rul in 1976. His work was in its time referred to frequently as “emotional architecture.” He’s also made a name for himself as a futurist.  One can see the connection in the angles and design of the Military College, even today.

The Campo Marte is not often open to the public. The Campo Marte Loyalty Monument, though, can be viewed from nearly anywhere around.  The Campo Marte name is also used for the Metrobús terminal station on Paseo de la Reforma (Line 7).
