Galería Hispánica Madrid-Ciudad de México / Proyecto H

The Galería Hispánica Madrid-Ciudad de México open in Mexico as a complement to the renowned Galería Hispánica in Madrid. In Madrid, the gallery began as an offshoot of a publishing firm who’d gotten to know Mexico City while visiting book fairs. Since 2012, it’s been a meeting point for artists from both countries and for others from all over the world.

The original idea had been to promote the job of Spanish artists in Latin America. It’s grown even more by taking Mexican artists and presenting them in primarily European contemporary art circles. The level of cultural exchange keeps a constant dialogue going between the two continents. The gallery also gives art lovers an opportunity to see Spanish and Latin American trends, sometimes converging, in the same space.

On Guadalajara street, in the Roma Norte neighborhood, Galería Hispánica is a multidisciplinary space. Shows regularly present photography, graphic arts, sculpture, and installation work, in addition to painting. A three floor building, one floor is dedicated to performance and conceptual arts, including music, and contemporary art happenings. Another floor is dedicated to the artistic exchange between Mexico and Spain. It includes emerging as well as a mid-career, and established artists. A small library includes books from the sixteenth century to the present. One of these is a copy, one of but eight in the world, of the Florentine codex.

Proyecto H has emerged as one of the gallery’s most dynamic projects. A separately curated space, the projects area includes artists from both sides of the atlantic

The Roma Norte gallery and project space are within the radius of the contemporary art scene that include Proyectos Monclova, Arroniz and many others.

Opening days and hours can vary, so private appointment are recommended. Or follow them on Facebook to see the latest gallery happenings.
