Centro Comercial GranSur

centro comercial gransur

GranSur is a recently remodeled and re-opened shopping center. Today, it generally hosts between 90 and 120 retailers. The biggest are the supermarket and movie cinema, but don’t discount the mall’s impact on the surrounding area.

GranSur has helped to cement the neighborhood’s reputation as a major retail and entertainment district. Inside, you’ll find an ice rink and multiple chain restaurants. There’s normally a broad range of upscale shops and boutiques too, although these will change with the fashions of the time.

The shopping center was developed by the GDI Group (Grupo GDI). A real estate developer, the group has built six other shopping centers in and around Mexico City. They also developed some 86 hotels in 26 different Mexican states.

Like many shopping centers of this caliber, this one has redefined its neighborhood. Sometimes simply referred to as the GranSur area, it’s more often called Pedregal de Carrasco, or Colonia El Caracol. The street outside the shopping center was even renamed the Boulevard GranSur.  Like much of the greater Pedregal Area, the area is still considered new. Thus it’s often being re-defined as is true even at this writing. Along with the broader stretch of Periférico, it’s part a major commercial and shopping district, as well as one of the most important business districts in the south of Mexico City.
