The Iztapalapa Historical Archive grew, in ten short years, into one of the most important cultural institutions in the Center of Iztapalapa. Opened just in October 2010, it’s become not just a focal point for the area’s many historical chroniclers. It’s also opened its arms to the muralists and painters, and the culinary experts and cooks among others. Together, they’ve made it into a center or knowledge and discussion of the deeper meanings and legacies of this very old part of the City.

The current building opened only in 2018. In addition to materials scoured from the National Archive, the collection also includes a wealth of donations from area residents.

Today, the archive mounts important photographic and documentary exhibitions. Activities are nearly endless. They include lectures and book presentations and many of these will share the space on the Macroplaza Cuitláhuac just out front. The archive is also a regular participant in many of the plaza’s fairs, festivals, and presentations.

The documents collection is open to the public, as is an exhibition hall and reading room. Guided tours of the Historic Center, the Cerro de la Estrella and other parts of Iztapalapa very often begin here. Many are organized with support from the Archive.

Hours: Weekdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Weekends, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
