Mercado Santa Fé

Open - Limited Services / Capacity

mercado santa fe

The Mercado Santa Fé is the beloved neighborhood market of the Pueblo de Santa Fé in Alvaro Obregon. One of the original settlements of Álvaro Obregón, the old colonial village name now covers a region that extends, sometimes confusingly, well into neighboring Cuajimalpa.

But here, you’re in old and historic Santa Fé. It’s one the best places to get a true idea of the town and its people. The Mercado Santa Fé serves also the neighboring Colonia El Pirul, just across the street. It’s a good introduction to some of the rough and tumble beautiful and rugged landscape for which Álvaro Obregón is rightly famous.

The market plays host to some 174 merchants. They sell everything from fruits and vegetables to repaired computers. But for people in the know, it’s one of the best places for lunch, too. Meals are prepared daily. Prices are better than reasonable. And food is as fresh as can be. For international travelers, it’s a good opportunity to eat “real” Mexican food.

And area residents couldn’t have it better in terms of farm-to-table freshness. The market’s just a two-minute walk from the old Santa Fé Church. But residents may argue about which is, today, the true center of town.
