Mercado Santa Juanita

This beautiful public market is the neighborhood center for the 20 de Noviembre neighborhood in Venustiano Carranza. It’s a remarkably clean and well-looked-after neighborhood market. It’s also the crown jewel of the larger Santa Juanita Park and Sports Complex. All of them sit just north of the domed Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos Church. It’s visible from most of the area. The entire Santa Juanita area derives its name from this church.

Like all the City’s Public Markets, this one serves residents not just of its own neighborhood, but multiple others in the surrounding area. The City and Alcaldía carefully renovated the whole place in 2021. It got that flashy new façade, and lots of extras. Opened originally in 1982, today more than 100 vendors work inside.

Among all these shops and stalls are some of the area’s best eateries. These include a couple of fondas and comida corrida-type establishments. (For tips on eating, see here.) In short, you can’t get restaurants serving foods this fresh anywhere else in the City. The vegetables are straight off the truck. And you’re helping small businesses and even farmers. You’re also paying less and eating better than you could on the street.
