The Metro Consulado station is one of several along a northern stretch of the Circuito Interior highway. It’s an important transfer station between Lines 4 and 5. The Line 5 platforms are on  the border between the Venustiano Carranza and Gustavo A. Madero alcaldías. The Line 4 platforms are entirely within Gustavo A. Madero.

The station is named for the Río Consulado Avenue. It was built on the canal bed of the same name. Today, the water runs through a pipe beneath the avenue. That explains the station logo which depicts the piped water.

The old Consulado canal used to connect the Rivers of San Joaquin and Los Morelos. Today the water flows into Lake Texcoco to the east of the City. The area was a swamp called Los Morales. It was a marshy swampy swamp and it was precisely there where these rivers flowed into the lake, constituting one of the remains of Lake Texcoco.

Not many international visitors, save the diehard, will visit the tiny Charles Chaplin park. It’s on the southwest corner of the intersection of Circuito Interior with the Avenida Congreso de la Unión. The 1982 monument at the center of the park is by artist Victor Gutiérrez. He’s well-known for public monuments all over Mexico.

The Mercado Rio Blanco is just north of the station on the Avenida Congreso de la Unión.
