Galerie Nordenhake México

The Galerie Nordenhake is one of the big international galleries in Mexico City. Having opened here in 2018, the gallery had expanded earlier from Malmö in Sweden to Berlin. Since then the gallery has carried on representing Nordic artists, but with much success, the vision has grown more and more international over the years.

The gallery has a widely respected reputation for large-scale sculptural installations and has been instrumental to the careers of many, mostly European artists. The opening of the Berlin gallery in 2000 brought the work of Spencer Finch, Marjetica Potrč, Gerard Byrne, and Helen Mirra to broad acclaim.

The Mexico City space was designed by architect Frida Escobedo who has also exhibited here. The overall Mexico City scene, with heavy minimalist overtones, seems a fit match for the Swedish art dealers.

Nordenhake is likely not the best known of contemporary art galleries in Mexico City. That’s a shame because it does often present some of the most highly regarded artists in the world. For those wandering the far north of Roma’s gallery scene, the gallery can present an inviting diversion even if its somewhat off the well-trodden gallery streets to the east of Insurgentes Sur.

Hours: Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday & Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
