San Luis Tlaxialtemalco Flower Market

San Luis Tlaxialtemalco Flower Market

The San Luis Tlaxialtemalco Flower Market is a major plant and flower distribution point. Within the pueblo San Luis Tlaxilatemalco, it’s quite near the edge of Tulyehualco to the westIt’s also right next to the giant Acuexcomatl Center for Environmental Culture. It makes a wonderful place to visit, even if you’re not in the market for flowers.

Dealers arrive here from all over Xochimilco, many of them on the canal just north of the site. Patrons walk off with flowers and plants, trees, bushes, and a whole variety of locally grown produce, too. It’s one of the most important retail outlets in the lakes district.

Often visited together with Tulyehualco, the market is just a first stop on a trip into the town center. It’s a good place for lunch. There are normally more than a few comals ready heated, and the food is as fresh as anything you’ll find.

In the east end of town, the area likely has more greenhouses than people. But as those few people are more than happy to show you around, you can’t really go wrong. One of multiple flower and plant markets in Mexico City, those in Xochimilco are considered the most verdant. About as close as you can get to the actual fields and greenhouses, it’s magical even on the cloudiest day. And when the sun comes out, the San Luis Tlaxialtemalco Flower Market may be the most unforgettable yet.
