Terreno Baldío Arte is an art gallery and project workshop opened in December 2005. The gallery focuses on traditional craft and began as a management and registrar inside of Javier Marín’s studio. Marín himself proposed expanding the project. Other artists were invited to build, diversify, and strengthen the management and commercialization work and a team of professionals could consolidate the artists’ work through direct collaborative action.

In 2007, Terreno Baldío rented the building at Orizaba 87. An exhibition by Luis Ruiz Hasta el viento está en mi contra (“Until the wind’s against me“) opened the same year. Since then the gallery has collaborated on numerous temporary projects and exhibitions. These have included projects with designers, artists, theater companies, musicians, and even perfume artists.

In 2011, the gallery began renovating the home at Orizaba 177 (pictured). The home, built originally in 1900, took three years to complete. Since then the exhibition program has presented works in design, fashion, architecture, public space, ecology and community work. A solid member of the Colonia Roma arts community, they’re also frequent participants in the annual Gallery Weekend.

As a publishing house, Terreno Baldío Arte has published 22 titles, among them catalogs documenting creative processes, and art books. The gallery also manages exhibitions on the screens of the Plaza Luis Cabrera. Since 2014, 15 exhibitions have focused on themes that contribute to the experience of citizens in the public space.
